Improved multilook techniques applied to SAR and SCANSAR imagery
نویسنده
چکیده
Multilook processing is commonly used in SAR image formation in order to reduce the speckle noise. We propose two new mutlilook techniques for improving the radiometric resolution without altering the geometric resolution and characteristics of the impulse response. These techniques are based on the formation of looks with different bandwidths. The final image is formed by giving each look a proper size and weighting and by adding them incoherently. The looks with wide bandwidth contribute to an improvement of the overall geometric resolution, while the looks with narrow bandwidth improve the overall radiometric resolution. The equivalent number of looks is more than 2.3 times the number of independent looks and is superior to conventional multilook processing with overlapping. Finally, using the proposed techniques, we present an algorithm for efficient SAR and ScanSAR processing and prove its validity by image comparison and analysis.

Scansar Image Quality Enhancement Using Fitted-geometry Doppler Surface
Most of currently operational Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites include the Scanning SAR (ScanSAR) mode for extended remote sensing applications. The extended swath provided by the ScanSAR mode can make up for the disadvantage of normal satellite SAR operation, such as limited coverage areas and short revisiting times. Therefore the ScanSAR mode is desired, especially when reduced resol...
متن کاملCompressed Sensing SAR Imaging with Multilook Processing
Multilook processing is a widely used speckle reduction approach in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging. Conventionally, it is achieved by incoherently summing of some independent low-resolution images formulated from overlapping subbands of the SAR signal. However, in the context of compressive sensing (CS) SAR imaging, where the samples are collected at sub-Nyquist rate, the data spectrum ...

A novel method of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image despeckling using the contourlet transform representation is presented. Justification for the use of the contourlet signal representation, originally developed for natural images, is given. Methods of evaluating the despeckling performance of various algorithms are provided. Finally, a comparison of performance of multilook processing, wave...
متن کاملRoad Extraction from Multi-frequency and Polarimetric Sar Imagery
Automatic extraction of linear topographic objects, such as, roads, rivers, or power lines, is an important topic for topographic mapping. In case of roads, an automatic extraction from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery is rather difficult, due to the speckle effect and the limited spatial resolution in relation to the road width. In this paper we investigate the additional use of multifre...
متن کاملImproved multilook technique applied to SAR images
The multilook technique used in synthetic aperture radar image formation consists in adding incoherently M looks. As these looks can be obtained in their complex form and are correlated, the phase and correlation informations should be taken into account in the speckle reduction process. In this paper, we propose an improved multilook technique based on the use of these two informations. We app...
